Frog Town: enjoy eating taiyaki as you walk and browse antique and snack shops

About this spot

A nostalgic shopping street where townhouse-style shops line the south bank of the Medobe River. Known as "Frog Town" because the river was once home to many Kajika frogs, you'll encounter frog figurines and signs throughout the street. Browse shops selling taiyaki and dango to eat while walking, antiques, snacks, and old goods—the experience feels like stepping back into the Showa era. Since the street was historically the approach to Yohashira Shrine, it's also satisfying for history enthusiasts.

Tips

The street is level and easy to walk with a stroller, though midday on weekends can be crowded. Stop at benches in front of shops or along the river for eating. Having small coins makes shopping at smaller shops smoother. The frog stone statue is a standard spot for commemorative photos.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour. Afternoon is when shops are fully open and eating while walking is most enjoyable.
