Stroll Through Spring-Fed Wasabi Paddies and the Triple Water Wheel, Plus Famous Wasabi Soft Serve

About this spot

Japan's largest wasabi farm, where the plants are nurtured by spring water from the Northern Alps. Admission and parking are free, and you can walk leisurely along a footpath past endless wasabi paddies and clear streams. The triple water wheel cottage by the riverside is famous as a filming location for director Akira Kurosawa's movies and is a photogenic must-see spot for souvenir photos. The shop offers unique wasabi specialties available only here, including wasabi soft serve ice cream and wasabi croquettes.

Tips

Admission and parking are both free, with flat, easy-to-navigate footpaths suitable for strollers. Early morning visits see fewer tour buses, making it easier to photograph the water wheel area. The wasabi soft serve is not spicy and has a subtle flavor that's popular with children. Summer's spring water area is refreshingly cool and pleasant.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. The farm is less crowded right after opening in the early morning, making it ideal for photography.
