Ride the Lift and Tower to the Start Point—Experience the Height and Panoramic Hakuba Valley View from a Ski Jumper's Perspective
About this spot
The competition venue for the ski jump events at the Nagano Olympics, featuring both normal hill and large hill side by side. Ride the lift and elevator up to the observation floor of the start tower, where you can experience the steep descent where jumpers launch from—at your eye level. Below lies the Hakuba townscape, and ahead stretches a magnificent mountain range; the view is so spectacular you'd hardly believe it's a competition venue. During summer, you may witness athletes practicing summer jumping.
Tips
The tower viewing hours vary by season and maintenance, so check ahead of time. Viewing areas may be restricted during competitions or athlete training sessions. Even if heights make you uncomfortable, looking up at the jump slope from below offers plenty of impact.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Daytime with good natural light offers the best views
