Transfer between bus and ropeway from Suga-no-dai and take a 7.5-minute aerial journey above the clouds

About this spot

Japan's first-built alpine ropeway ascends all at once from Shirabi-deira Station to the 2,612-meter-elevation Senjojiki Station. With a height difference of approximately 950 meters—Japan's largest scale—the approximately 7.5-minute ride offers full-window views of mountain ranges and valley scenery far below. Senjojiki Station is renowned as Japan's highest-elevation station, and the crisp mountain air that greets you as the doors open is an unforgettable high-altitude experience. Since personal vehicles are restricted in this area, you'll transfer from the Suga-no-dai Bus Center to the local bus.

Tips

Park your car at the Suga-no-dai Bus Center parking lot (paid). From there, it's approximately 30 minutes by local bus plus approximately 7.5 minutes by ropeway. During summer vacation and fall foliage season, lines form early, so an early morning departure is recommended. Costs are estimates for round-trip bus and ropeway fares. Even in midsummer, the mountain top reaches only around 15°C, so bring a jacket.

Best time to visit

Total time approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. The earliest arrival means shorter lines and clearer air.
