Stroll through the thatched-roof gassho-zukuri village settlement with your partner

About this spot

An outdoor museum-like facility featuring an entire village of thatched-roof gassho-zukuri houses relocated from Shirakawa-go and other locations. At the former Odo family residence, designated as a National Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property, you can experience traditional mountain village life with a traditional hearth up close. The shadow puppet theater "Shirasagi-za" performs regularly, and activities such as pottery and painting are available, offering plenty of enjoyable experiences for couples. On the elevated side, there's also a long slide descending through the forest where you can return to your childhood wonder and have a blast.

Tips

The village has many slopes and gravel paths, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Pick up a village map at the entrance for a smooth visit. It takes about 20 minutes of uphill walking from the hot spring town center, so consider using a bus or taxi on the way there for convenience. Check the duration of activity menus in advance.

Best time to visit

Approximately 2.5 hours required. Early morning after opening has fewer visitors and is better for photography.
