The temple is associated with the white heron legend of Gero Onsen, which tells how a white heron revealed the location of the hot spring's waters. From in front of the main hall, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the hot spring town's roofline and the Hida mountains—a perfect final point to reflect on your journey. Tips
The long stone steps require comfortable walking shoes. There are small points of interest like stone Buddhist statues along the way, so take your time and rest as needed. Come back down before it gets dark in the evening.
