About this spot
A townscape along the Nagara River that retains the character of its past as a thriving merchant quarter during the port era. Latticed townhouses line the street, alongside shops selling Gifu fans and Mino washi paper crafts, as well as cafes and sweet shops housed in renovated townhouses, making for a charming and atmospheric stroll. Savoring freshly grilled dango while walking is a delight for children. Nearby are the Nagara River's riverbank and the cormorant fishing boat boarding area, where you might encounter boats heading out for evening cormorant fishing during summer evenings. Walking while looking back at Mount Kinkazan and the keep makes for a perfect finale to your day.
Tips
The street is flat and easy to navigate with a stroller, though some sections are narrow—watch for traffic. Townhouse shops are compact, so holding hands indoors is reassuring. Small change for snacks is convenient. The Kawaracho Plaza and Nagara River banks are ideal rest spots for children.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours. Afternoon brings out all the shops, and evening light makes the townscape even more charming.
