A museum in Kasahara Town, a major production area of mosaic tiles, often called the sacred ground for tile enthusiasts. The building features curved exterior walls reminiscent of clay mountains with a small entrance—designed by architect Akira Fujimori, its appearance alone will make your heart skip a beat. The exhibition room on the top floor displays an array of tile products from the Showa era, including tile-covered kilns and wash basins that brightened everyday life. Light streaming through the window opening toward the sky creates a space so beautiful you'll want to photograph it. In the first-floor workshop, you can enjoy a tile-pasting experience by choosing your favorite tiles to create small items.
Tips
The standard route is to descend from the top floor as you tour the museum. Tile-pasting experiences are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue, so on busy days it's reassuring to apply in advance upon arrival. Parking available.
