Appreciate Masterpieces of Mino Ware and 1,300 Years of History, Including Shino and Oribe
About this spot
A museum in Tajimi, the birthplace of Mino ware, where you can systematically trace its history and beauty. From tea wares such as Shino, Oribe, Yellow Kiseto, and Seto Black that flourished in the Momoyama period, to works by master craftspeople including Living National Treasures, you can carefully appreciate renowned works of Mino ware. Plump, milky-white Shino, Oribe with its warping and deep green hues—even within the same Mino ware, each piece has a distinct character. Walking through and discussing "which bowl would you like to eat from?" with children keeps them engaged and entertained throughout.
Tips
The museum is flat inside and easy to navigate with a stroller. On some days, there are paid experiences where you can select your favorite tea bowl and enjoy matcha tea; check at the reception. Parking is free.
Best time to visit
