Stroll along the lakeside footpath and capture the strange rocks and lake scenery with your camera

About this spot

A scenic spot created by the Ōi Dam, which dams the Kiso River, weaving together strange rock formations and a beautiful lake. The footpath at Sazanami Park (さざなみ公園) on the lake shore is well-maintained, allowing you to walk leisurely while taking in the rocky cliffs and mountain ranges reflected on the water's surface. The charm of this area also lies in being able to observe natural rock formations up close, such as the mushroom-shaped Umbrella Rock (傘岩). The gorge changes its appearance with the seasons—cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green leaves in early summer, and autumn foliage—offering new discoveries no matter how many times you visit.

Tips

The area around Sazanami Park can be explored free of charge, and there is a parking lot near the cruise boat landing. The footpath is well-maintained but has some ups and downs, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The morning is less crowded and the lake surface is calm, making it the perfect time for photography. Stop by the visitor center to get a preview of the main attractions.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. In the morning, the lake surface is calm and strange rocks reflect easily like mirrors in the water.
