Take a jet boat on a water cruise around the strange rock formations
About this spot
A highlight of Ena Gorge sightseeing, this approximately 30-minute round-trip water cruise on the dam lake is an experience unto itself. Strange rocks with evocative names like Lion Rock (獅子岩), Battleship Rock (軍艦岩), and Character Rock (品の字岩) appear one after another as you imagine the origins of their names. The scale and power of the rock cliffs and mountains rising above the water's surface is a completely different world from a lakeside stroll. Looking up at the cliffs just above the water's surface from the boat offers a sense of scale that photographs cannot convey. Sitting side by side by the boat window will surely create your most unforgettable memory of the trip.
Tips
Boats operate regularly during the day, but service may be suspended due to weather or water levels, so it's best to check the day's operating status before heading out. The deck and window areas can feel chilly from the lake breeze, so a light jacket is recommended. During cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, the landing can be crowded, so an early morning departure is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes required (approximately 30 minutes on boat). In the morning, the light angle is favorable and the strange rocks appear crisp and clear.
