Conclude your tour viewing the spectacular roaring waterfall from the observation platform
About this spot
Located right next to Shiraito Falls, where the main stream of Shiba River drops approximately 25 meters with tremendous force and spray. In contrast to the elegant white threads of Shiraito Falls, this waterfall is characterized by its powerful roar and water mist, and comparing the two reveals the rich expressiveness of nature. The name is said to come from a legend in which the Soga brothers, while consulting about revenge, found their voices drowned out by the waterfall's roar. The roar supposedly stopped when they wished for silence. Since you only view from an observation platform, it's easy for families with young children to visit, making it the perfect finale to your waterfall tour.
Tips
It's just a short walk from Shiraito Falls' parking lot, and can be viewed from an observation spot along the footpath. While there are railings, the area is near a cliff, so hold your child's hand while viewing. The shop area is nearby, perfect for picking up souvenirs or enjoying soft-serve ice cream before heading home. It can get chilly in the evening, so a light jacket is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. The early evening hours with soft light beautifully showcase the rising water mist.
