Climb the Wooden Reconstructed Main Tower and Visit the Existing Ninomaru Palace

A renowned castle in the Tokai region, known as the seat of warlord Yamauchi Kazutoshi. The main tower was rebuilt as Japan's first authentic wooden reconstructed castle tower. Climbing the wooden stairs step by step to the top floor offers panoramic views of Kakegawa's townscape and distant mountains. The Ninomaru Palace (二の丸御殿) at the base is one of Japan's few remaining existing castle palaces and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The connected spacious tatami-matted rooms evoke the atmosphere of a period drama, with plenty to impress the grandparent generation.

Tips

Admission for both the main tower and Ninomaru Palace is approximately 410 yen per adult. The interior stairs are quite steep, so small children should hold hands, and those with concerns about walking should focus on the palace and gardens without overexerting themselves. Since you must remove shoes to enter the palace, shoes that are easy to slip on and off are practical. About 20 minutes walk from the Flower and Bird Park, or about 5 minutes by taxi.
