Japan's Only Ropeway Crossing a Lake—Ascend Ōgusayama on the Kanzanji Ropeway
About this spot
Japan's only ropeway connecting Tatsutagawa Temple Onsen with Ōgusayama on the opposite shore—the nation's sole ropeway that crosses a lake. As the gondola glides over the inner waters of Lake Hamana, the sparkling lake surface and pleasure boats unfold below, while the Tatsutagawa Temple onsen district and ferris wheel appear behind you, eliciting excited cheers from the whole family during the brief aerial journey. At the mountain summit of Ōgusayama awaits an observation deck overlooking the entire Lake Hamana, where a breathtaking panoramic vista stretches as if the lake and sky are yours alone.
Tips
The boarding point is right next to Lake Hamana Pal Pal amusement park, and you can use the shared parking lot for convenience. Strollers can be brought aboard the gondola. Choosing a combination ticket with the Music Box Museum at the summit offers slightly better value. Operations may be suspended on windy days, so it's wise to confirm the day's operating status before heading out.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 30 minutes. The afternoon light makes the lake surface sparkle most beautifully.
