Iruka Pond (入鹿池)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A massive irrigation pond created during the Edo period, located immediately next to Meiji Mura Museum. Surrounded by mountains with a lake-like scenery, it's also known as a prime spot for boat fishing. The lakeside offers leisurely views of the water's surface and the forest of Meiji Mura, perfect for an after-meal walk. From autumn to spring, small boats for smelt fishing dot the water, creating a peaceful pastoral landscape.

Tips

Just a short drive from the Meiji Mura parking lot. Parking spots are scattered around the boathouse areas on the lakeside. Since there are waterside areas without fences, it's safer to hold small children's hands while walking.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 40 minutes. Mid-afternoon is a pleasant time when sunlight glistens on the water's surface.
