Experience the magnificent floats of the Inuyama Festival up close and relive the festival's excitement

About this spot

This museum along Honmachi Street displays the floats (yama) that are pulled during the Inuyama Festival. The exhibition hall featuring 8-meter-tall three-tiered floats is spectacular, and with lighting and sound effects, the festival's excitement comes alive. The museum's name "Donden" comes from the technique where men dynamically change the direction of these heavy floats. You can enjoy the rare privilege of closely examining the intricate craftsmanship of the floats adorned with karakuri automata (mechanical dolls).

Tips

Admission is a reasonable 100 yen, making it an easy stop for a rest break during food strolling. The indoor exhibits make it an ideal refuge if weather turns bad. As closing time approaches, entry is restricted, so allow plenty of time if visiting in the evening.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 50 minutes. In the evening, the museum is quiet and you may have the floats all to yourself
