Enjoy lunch and food strolling on Honmachi Street, leisurely visiting traditional townhouses and shops

About this spot

Centered on Honmachi Street extending south from Inuyama Castle, this is a food-strolling paradise where Edo-era town planning and Showa retro storefronts coexist. The Inuyama style is to buy colorful skewer dango, Hida beef skewers, and dengaku in small portions and share them as you walk. Scattered throughout are cafes and gift shops housed in converted townhouses, as well as kimono rental shops—the more you explore, the more fun you'll find. The view of the keep rising above the street is picture-perfect from every angle, and time flies as you photograph each other.

Tips

Food strolling centers on hand-held skewer items, with a budget of around 2,000 yen including lunch. Popular shops have lines during midday weekends, so visit favored shops early. The street is flat and easy to walk, though some sections have stone paving, so wear comfortable shoes. Return trash to the shop where you made purchases—it's proper etiquette.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 3.5 hours. Starting in early afternoon gives you beautiful soft light for the town scenery in the evening
