Cross the long Takeshima Bridge to land on the island and enjoy a seaside stroll over the water

About this spot

A small island with a circumference of about 680 meters floating in Mikawa Bay and a symbolic landmark of Gamagori. Connected to the mainland by the Takeshima Bridge spanning approximately 400 meters, the ability to walk across the water is extremely popular with children. The entire island is within the grounds of Yaobotomigumi Shrine, and due to its unique vegetation differing from the opposite shore, it is designated as a national natural monument. A walking path circles the island, allowing for a leisurely stroll while enjoying the tunnel of trees and ocean views.

Tips

The Takeshima Bridge is for pedestrians only and free to cross. On windy days, bring a light jacket as it gets chilly on the bridge. Free and paid parking is available at Takeshima Park on the opposite shore (paid during busy seasons). The pathway on the island has stairs and unpaved sections, so it's better to leave the baby stroller at the bridge entrance and use a baby carrier instead.

Best time to visit

Takes about 45 minutes. The morning hours have fewer people and the ocean views from the bridge are beautiful.
