About this spot
A shrine located at the summit of Takeshima, known affectionately as 'Takeshima Benzaiten' and counted among Japan's Seven Benzaiten Shrines. According to tradition, it was founded in the late Heian period and is renowned for blessings of good fortune, romantic ties, and safe childbirth, making it perfect for family milestone visits. Passing through the torii gate and climbing the stone steps, a serene shrine grounds surrounded by greenery opens before you, and you can feel the special sacred atmosphere of the entire island. After your visit, you can also enjoy views of Mikawa Bay from the island's walking paths.
Tips
The approach path continues with about 100 stone steps, so hold small children's hands and climb slowly. Baby strollers cannot go up, so a baby carrier is recommended. The shrine grounds have an amulet and fortune-telling window, and charms for children's healthy growth are popular.
Best time to visit
Takes about 45 minutes. The morning hours offer a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for worshipping.
