Deep-sea creature touch pools and hand-written explanations for laughs at this unique aquarium
About this spot
Despite its small size, this aquarium has fans across Japan and is a source of pride for Gamagori. The staff's heartfelt hand-written explanations, called 'Fish Life Stories,' are so charming that even adults find themselves reading them intently—a signature feature. The touch pool where you can actually touch deep-sea creatures like Japanese spider crabs and giant isopods is a must-experience attraction unique to this aquarium. With sea lion shows, capybaras, and other highlights packed into the compact facility, even small children can enjoy going through the entire aquarium without getting bored.
Tips
The facility is compact and easy to navigate with a baby stroller, but during crowded times, it's smoother to fold the stroller at the entrance. Lines for entry often form before midday on weekends and holidays, so visiting early in the morning is recommended. The aquarium is just a short walk from Takeshima Park's parking area.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Early morning right after opening is quietest, allowing you to enjoy the touch pools at a leisurely pace.
