The ruins of a castle that thrived as a strategic stronghold of East Mikawa, standing on the banks of the Toyokawa River. Located within the verdant Toyohashi Park, the restored white-walled iron tower (kurogane-yagura) and stone walls remaining along the riverbank are the main attractions. The tower viewed across the river is one of Toyohashi's signature landscapes, and the park's grassy expanse offers a refreshing openness where children can run freely. It's the perfect spot for a leisurely history walk after a full morning of play at the zoo.
Tips
Both the park and tower viewing are free. The interior of the iron tower is open only on certain days and times, but the exterior and stone walls alone offer plenty to enjoy. The grounds are flat and stroller-friendly, with shaded benches for resting. There are steps near the riverside stone walls, so hold small children's hands.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 1 hour. In the afternoon, the light hits the riverbank tower beautifully for photos.
