Climb to the Keep of Okazaki Castle, Where Tokugawa Ieyasu Was Born, and Survey the Town from the Top Floor

The symbol of Okazaki, known as the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The interior of the keep functions as an exhibition space dedicated to Ieyasu and the history of Okazaki, where videos and materials trace his life story. From the observation room on the top floor, you can see the entire townscape of Okazaki and the flow of the Otogawa River. The stone walls and moats still bear traces of the castle's former grandeur, and even just a walk around the exterior will delight any castle-loving family.
Tips
The keep uses primarily stairs, so it's best to leave strollers near the entrance and climb lightly. The exhibits feature many videos, and history-loving elementary school children will find themselves captivated. The paid parking lot at Okazaki Park is convenient. Arriving early in the morning means fewer crowds and you can leisurely enjoy the views from the observation room.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. Early morning right after opening is recommended, as it's less crowded.
