View superconducting maglev trains and generations of Shinkansen vehicles, plus a massive diorama
About this spot
A railway museum operated by JR Central, where superconducting maglev trains, generations of Shinkansen, and conventional line vehicles line up impressively. Japan's largest railway diorama is meticulously detailed—both children and adults lose track of time admiring it. The museum also features simulators where you can experience being a conductor and exhibits teaching how railways work. There are outdoor displays and kids' corners too, offering so much that train-loving children may not have enough time even for half a day.
Tips
From Nagoya Station, take the Aonami Line to the final stop, Kinjō-futo Station—it's right there. Note that some simulators are lottery-based or fee-based, so it's recommended to check the reservations method at the reception desk upon entry. There is a rest area inside where you can eat packed lunches, and the flat layout is easy to navigate with strollers.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 2 hours. Early morning, right after opening, is less crowded and allows for detailed viewing.
