A municipal museum built adjacent to the Naniwa Palace ruins, where you take the elevator to the 10th floor and descend through the floors to trace Osaka's history from ancient to modern times. On the 10th floor's ancient history section, the Great Hall of Naniwa Palace from the Nara period is reproduced at full scale, and standing amid the vermillion-painted pillars feels like a time leap over a thousand years into ancient Osaka. Outside the windows spreads a stunning panorama overlooking both Osaka Castle and the Naniwa Palace ruins—perfect preparation for the day ahead. The medieval and early modern sections offer impressive displays of intricate townscape models and original artifacts, and the simple descent flow makes it easy and enjoyable for both grandparents and grandchildren. Located in a high-rise building integrated with NHK Osaka Broadcasting Station, it's also wonderful for staying comfortable on rainy days.
Tips
Just a short walk from Exit 9 of Osaka Metro Taniyashirodaome Station; using the subway means you'll arrive with minimal rain exposure. Note that it's closed Tuesdays (or the following weekday if Tuesday is a holiday). The building has complete elevator access and is easy to navigate for those using strollers or having concerns about mobility. The area right after opening is less crowded, and the 10th-floor views are especially easy to enjoy in solitude at that time.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours. Recommended to enter soon after opening in the morning and descend from the 10th floor.
