Leisurely Stroll Along the Moat Promenade with Light Meals and Refreshments at Shops and Tea Stalls
About this spot
A vast urban park covering approximately 105 hectares centered on Osaka Castle. The promenade along the moat is flat and easy to walk, perfect for a leisurely three-generation stroll while viewing massive stone walls, Important Cultural Property turrets, and the inner and outer moats filled with water. The park has scattered stalls and tea shops, and near JR Osaka Castle Park Station there's Joe Terrace Osaka, a gathering of restaurants, offering plenty of options for light meals and breaks. Scenic spring plum groves and cherry blossoms create impressive seasonal colors, and you'll encounter picturesque views whenever you visit. With abundant benches and shady spots, you can rest at the grandparents' pace as you walk. As a stage for a history walk, there's no better park representing Osaka.
Tips
Multiple nearby stations provide options—JR Osaka Castle Park and Morino-miya stations, and Osaka Metro Taniyashirodaome and Tenmabashi stations—allowing you to choose based on your route. The park is very spacious, so check signage when heading toward the Tenshu Keep. The park offers a fee-based road train and electric car for getting around; these are handy if grandparents have any mobility concerns. Entry is free, with only the Nishinomaru Garden charging a fee.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours. Best to leisurely stroll and enjoy light meals late morning or around midday.
