An imposing Western-style building standing just beside the Tenshu, built in 1931 as the Old Army Fourth Division Headquarters building—the same year the Tenshu was rebuilt. After the war, it long served as the Osaka Municipal Museum and was revitalized as a commercial facility in 2017. Inside are cafés, restaurants, and shops with Osaka souvenirs, where you can rest your weary feet slowly in classically appointed surroundings. From the top-floor restaurant and terrace, you can see the Tenshu with its golden ornamental fish in close-up—a exceptional view to conclude the day. The stone-finished exterior and staircase designs make the building itself a sight to behold, so taking time to admire the details is recommended.
Tips
Just a short walk from the Tenshu, perfectly positioned for a post-visit rest. The 1st-floor shop is free to enter and lets you select souvenirs all in one place. The café is relatively quiet around the time the Tenshu closes. The return journey is within walking distance to both Osaka Castle Park and Morino-miya stations, but since the park is spacious, begin your walk before dusk for safety.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. After 15:00 following your Tenshu visit, an evening café break is ideal.
