360-Degree View of Osaka's Cityscape from the Observation Deck on the Tenshu's Top Floor
About this spot
The current Tenshu Keep, with its golden ornamental fish and tiger decorations gleaming against the sky, was rebuilt in 1931 through public donations and houses a museum inside presenting the history of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the Siege of Osaka. Along with exhibits of armor and folding screens, videos and dioramas present history in an easily understandable way—connecting three-dimensionally to what you previewed at the Osaka Museum of History this morning. The building has an elevator to the 5th floor, minimizing strain on grandparents' legs. Standing on the 8th-floor observation deck some 50 meters above ground, you can survey Osaka's 360-degree panorama—from buildings to the greenery of Osaka Castle Park. The panoramic view from the keep enjoyed together by three generations will surely be the day's greatest memory.
Tips
Ticket counters often have lines; having official advance e-tickets ready ensures smooth entry. The indoor elevator goes to the 5th floor only; use stairs to reach the 8th-floor observation deck. Leave strollers at the entrance area for safety. The stone-paved gentle upslope from the Sakura Gate to the Tenshu is easy; let grandparents set the pace.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours. After 14:00 when daytime tour groups have thinned out allows relatively leisurely viewing.
