Opened in 1982, this museum specializing in Oriental ceramics is built around the "Ataka Collection," a world-class ceramic collection donated by 21 Sumitomo Group companies. Its approximately 6,000 works are internationally recognized as among the finest in Chinese and Korean ceramics, with the national treasure "Oil-drop Tenmoku tea bowl" being a must-see masterpiece—its interior surface features countless markings said to resemble a microcosm. Another national treasure, the "Flying Blue Celadon Flower Vase," and many important cultural property-designated works also grace the collection. The spring 2024 renovation added a glass-walled entrance and newly designed exhibition spaces where glazes can be appreciated in natural light, along with rotating displays allowing 360-degree views of pieces. Tips
Just outside Exit 1 of Naniwabashi Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line, about 2 minutes on foot from the Central Public Hall. Admission fees vary by exhibition, so check the official website for current exhibitions and pricing. A monocular is recommended to fully appreciate the fine details of the glazes. Coin lockers are available to store belongings and move about freely.
