Leisurely stroll through the rose garden and enjoy lunch break at a riverside café
About this spot
Spread across an islet between the Dojimagawa and Tosaborigawa rivers, Osaka's first public park opened in 1891. The highlight is the rose garden featuring approximately 310 varieties and 3,700 bushes that flourish with a sweet fragrance during peak blooms in May and October. Lawns, riverside benches, and cafés and restaurants offering dining with river views are scattered throughout, creating an oasis in the city center where time moves unhurried. It's an ideal spot to take a lunch break between museum visits, feeling the river breeze while seated on a bench. The retro architecture and architecturally distinctive bridges across the river create beautiful scenery perfect for two people strolling together.
Tips
Roses typically peak in mid-May and mid-October. Riverside cafés and restaurants get crowded after noon on weekends, so arriving slightly early or purchasing takeout to eat while enjoying the river view on the lawn or benches is recommended (budget approximately 1,000–1,500 yen per person for lunch). The park features flat promenades with few steps, perfect for a post-meal stroll.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Daytime around noon is pleasant; the rose seasons of May and October are particularly special.
