Stroll across expansive lawns, enjoy seasonal flower fields and woodland walking paths
About this spot
A vast park spanning the former site of the 1970 Japan Expo, covering an area equivalent to approximately 65 Koshien baseball stadiums. The Natural & Cultural Park features expansive lawns as far as the eye can see, an open space where children can run around freely. Seasonal flower fields with tulips, nemophila, and cosmos are spectacular, offering a different landscape with each visit. There's also a tree-top observation path called 'Solard' where you can walk as if floating through the forest canopy, and areas with large play equipment—children from preschool through elementary school will never get bored. As the sun rises on the morning's clear air, the Tower of the Sun appears beyond the trees—a special sight that even adults pause to admire. A perfect way to start the day and a classic family strolling spot.
Tips
From Osaka Monorail's 'Expo Memorial Park' station, cross the footbridge and enter immediately through the Central Entrance to the Natural & Cultural Park. Admission is shared with the Japanese Garden at a reasonable 260 yen for adults and 80 yen for children/junior high students. Some periods close on Wednesdays, so check the official website's calendar beforehand. The park is very large, so a stroller is essential for families with preschoolers. If driving, there are multiple parking lots—choosing one near the Tower of the Sun reduces walking distance.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. Arriving just after opening in the morning means fewer crowds and the park offers lawn play in crisp, clear air.
