About this spot
A colossal monument approximately 70 meters tall created by artist Taro Okamoto as the symbol of the 1970 Osaka Expo. It has three faces: the 'Golden Face' at the top symbolizing the future, the 'Face of the Sun' at the front representing the present, and the 'Black Sun' at the back gazing upon the past—standing with overwhelming presence for over half a century. Viewing the tower from directly below, you experience a size and mysterious power that photographs cannot convey, prompting gasps from both children and adults alike. The front, with arms outstretched, is the classic spot for family photos—a shot against the blue sky becomes the trip's best memory. Inside the tower, an exhibition called 'Tree of Life' tracing the evolution of life has been opened to the public; advance reservation allows you to enter and view it.
Tips
Viewing the exterior and taking photos require only the Natural & Cultural Park admission (no additional fee). Viewing the interior 'Tree of Life' exhibition costs extra (720 yen for adults, 310 yen for children/junior high students) and advance reservation through the official website is recommended. Popular dates fill quickly, so book early once your visiting date is set. On weekends during the day, the front plaza is busy with families taking photos—visiting earlier in the morning allows more leisurely photography.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. Early morning hours mean the front plaza is less crowded, allowing you to photograph your family at a relaxed pace.
