Head to the summit of Daishi Mountain for a grand panorama of the hot spring town, Maruyama River, and the Sea of Japan
About this spot
An unusually designed ropeway that connects the far end of the hot spring town to the summit of Daishi Mountain, with a midway station providing access to Onsen Temple. The approximately 7-minute aerial journey opens onto a magnificent panorama featuring the gentle flow of the Maruyama River, the hot spring town with its misty steam, and on clear days, the Sea of Japan stretching to the horizon. The "Miharashi Terrace Cafe" (みはらしテラスカフェ) at the summit is a unique establishment claiming the title of 'the least crowded café in Japan,' and enjoying coffee or sweets while gazing at the stunning views is a perfect highlight of your couple's trip. Playing the traditional game of tile tossing (かわらけ投げ) to make wishes in the summit plaza is also a popular activity. After burning the view of the hot spring town below into your memory and returning to the town, the scenery during your subsequent stroll will look entirely different.
Tips
The ropeway boarding point is at the far end of the hot spring town, about 15–20 minutes on foot from Kinosaki Onsen Station. Since there are set operating intervals, checking the schedule at the boarding point will minimize wait times. The ropeway may close during bad weather like strong winds, so check the official website for the day's operating status. A round-trip ticket is recommended for a leisurely visit.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours. Clear skies from morning through early afternoon offer the best views.
