Set sail from Fukura Port on the sailing ship Kanrin Maru, experience the world's largest whirlpool up close

About this spot

An observation cruise departing from Fukura Port into the Naruto Strait, aboard the "Kanrin Maru," a sailing ship modeled after a Bakumatsu-era military vessel, to see the world's largest Naruto Whirlpool. The round trip takes approximately 1 hour. In the fast-flowing Naruto Strait, tidal changes create large and small whirlpools one after another, and the sight of the sea surface churning with whirlpools as seen from the deck is truly spectacular. The large vessel moves relatively gently, and there are indoor seating areas, so three generations from small children to grandparents can board with confidence. The unique ship's perspective of looking up at the Onaruto Bridge from the sea is unforgettable. Family members cheering together makes this the highlight of the trip.

Tips

The boarding point is in front of Nanairo-kan at Fukura Port. Access is convenient by highway bus from Kobe and Osaka, getting off at Fukura Bus Terminal. The best whirlpool viewing time changes daily with tides, so check the tide table on the official website and make a reservation if possible. It's reassuring to complete check-in 30 minutes before departure. The deck has strong sea winds, so bring a light layer; if you're prone to seasickness, take motion sickness medication before boarding.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1.5 hours. The best whirlpool viewing time changes daily, so consult the tide table and choose a departure time suitable for observation.
