About this spot
A vast park spread across the foot of Wakakusa Mountain, where approximately 1,200 wild deer designated as a National Natural Monument live freely. When you hold the deer crackers sold in the park, deer come running and bow while begging in a way that delights children. The landscape of deer leisurely walking through grassy areas and between large trees is uniquely Nara and photogenic from any angle. With Todai-ji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and the Nara National Museum scattered throughout and around the park, you can visit anytime during your day's sightseeing. The seasonal colors are also beautiful—cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage in fall—and children love running freely through the spacious grassland. The park is also perfect for family photo opportunities.
Tips
About 5 minutes on foot from Kintetsu Nara Station will bring you to the west side of the park. Deer crackers are sold at various shops throughout the park; the trick when feeding is to offer them quickly without teasing. If a deer bows and solicits, give them their cracker promptly. Deer eat paper and bags, so keep your belongings in a zipper bag, and always have an adult accompany small children. A picnic mat is convenient when resting on the grass.

Approximately 1 hour. From morning through late morning, the deer are responsive and it's perfect for the deer cracker experience
