A brilliantly colored mural tumulus rivaling Takamatsu, with the Four Gods—Xuanwu (Black Tortoise), Qinglong (Azure Dragon), Baihu (White Tiger), and Zhuque (Vermilion Bird)—and what is among the world's oldest comprehensive astronomical charts depicted in its stone chamber. All murals are designated National Treasures. At the adjacent "Kitora Kofun Mural Experience Hall—Four Gods Hall," powerful large-screen images and full-scale stone chamber models allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the murals, and admission is free. The ceiling-spanning astronomical chart video is thrilling for astronomy-loving children, and exhibits that entertainingly teach about each of the Four Gods are also available. If you time it right for the special public viewings of the original murals held several times yearly by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (advance registration required), you may even meet the actual Four Gods. Tips

About 10 minutes by bicycle from Takamatsu Kofun, or about 15 minutes walk from Tsubosaka Station by train. Free parking and bicycle parking are available in the National Asuka Historical Park Kitora Kofun area. The Four Gods Hall offers free admission and air conditioning, making it perfect for cooling down after a day of riding. Advance registration is required for special viewings of the actual murals, so confirm the schedule ahead if planning to see them. Arriving with time to spare before closing is recommended.
