Saiga-zaki Lighthouse (雑賀崎灯台)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A white lighthouse standing on a high promontory at the tip of Saiga-zaki, with its upper observation deck open to the public free of charge. Spread below is Saiga-zaki's fishing port, where houses cling to the steep slope in layers, creating a landscape reminiscent of an Italian seaside town—earning it the name 'Japan's Amalfi' and recently becoming a notable viewpoint. Islands such as Oshima and Nakanoshima float offshore, and on clear days you can see Awaji Island in the distance, commanding a grand panorama. Particularly beautiful is dusk, when both the sea and port town turn crimson—a truly spectacular sight. It is the perfect place to conclude your day's journey through Wakura's historical landscapes with a sunset memory that will linger in your heart.

Tips

There is limited parking directly below the lighthouse, which can get congested at dusk. From Banshogarden, it's a 15-20 minute walk uphill. Sneakers are recommended for climbing the stairs to the observation deck. Research the sunset time in advance and arrive 30 minutes before. The sea breeze in the evening is colder than expected, so bring a light jacket.

Best time to visit

About 1.5 hours. Arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour before sunset and leisurely savor the moment when the port and sea are bathed in the golden glow.
