A Grand Panorama from the 586-Meter Summit: Views of the Aridagawa River and the Kii Channel

About this spot

A park sprawling across the summit of 586-meter Washigamine, offering stunning panoramic views: the Aridagawa River valley below, successive mountain ranges, and on clear days, the Kii Channel and even Awaji Island in the distance. True to its name, in autumn the hillsides burst into bloom with cosmos flowers, creating a spectacular flower-viewing spot with ocean views. Since you can drive nearly to the mountain top, elderly grandparents can reach the spectacular scenery without a long hike. As evening approaches, the light softens beautifully, and the mountains and sea take on delicate hues—the perfect finale to your day. It's an ideal stage for taking a memorable family photo with all three generations.

Tips

You can drive to the parking area near the summit, but the road is narrow and winding, so drive carefully. At 586 meters elevation, the summit is significantly cooler than the base, so bring a light layer even in summer. Weekends during cosmos bloom (late September–mid-October) can be crowded. Don't rely too heavily on shops or vending machines; bring your own drinks. The return is via the same mountain road, so descending before dark is recommended.

Best time to visit

Plan about 1.5 hours. Late afternoon when the air is crisp and light is soft is most pleasant. Autumn during cosmos bloom is especially lovely.
