Leisurely Lakeside Promenade Walk. Children Can Run Free on Grassy Lawns
About this spot
This open and inviting park stretches for approximately 4.8 kilometers along the Lake Biwa shoreline in central Otsu. A flat promenade runs along the lake, with views across to Mikami Mountain (called Ōmi Fuji) and the Hira mountain range. In the grassy lawns, children can run freely, and along the water's edge, there are countless ways for young ones to explore—watching waves, counting passing boats, and more. Many benches provide perfect rest spots after the temple visit or cruise. The lake's changing seasonal scenery makes it a favorite gathering place for locals, and you'll feel the everyday atmosphere of Otsu during your travels. It's a perfect place for families to relax while appreciating Lake Biwa's grandeur up close.
Tips
It's just a short walk along the lakeshore from Otsu Port. The promenade is flat and easy to push a baby stroller. Shade is limited, so bring hats and drinks in summer. Waterfront cafés and restaurants line the area called "Nagisa no Terrace," which serves as a good landmark for breaks and restrooms.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. After disembarking from the cruise in late morning, it's perfect timing for a playtime to stretch and move around.
