Takashima Cruise—Check-in for boarding. Set sail while feeling Lake Biwa's breeze from the deck
About this spot
A gateway port to the Kōhoku area in the northern part of Lake Biwa, from which sightseeing boats depart for Takashima Island, known as the island where the gods dwell. Just a 10-minute walk from JR Nagahama Station, complete your boarding check-in and head to the pier. As the ship leaves the shore, the vast waters of Lake Biwa—so expansive they rival the sea—stretch endlessly before you, and on clear days, Mount Ibuki and the surrounding mountain ranges come into view. The approximately 30-minute journey across the lake is best enjoyed on deck, watching the breeze and gradually approaching green island silhouettes. This very ship journey marks the prologue of your power spot pilgrimage, as your spirit transitions from the everyday to the sacred. Stand together on the deck and imprint the opening scene of your journey in your hearts.
Tips
Approximately 10 minutes on foot from JR Nagahama Station toward Lake Biwa; free parking is available at the port. Boats to Takashima operate on a limited schedule, so check the operator's timetable in advance and book online for peace of mind. Your time on the island is determined by your return ferry, so confirm the departure time when boarding. The deck can be quite windy despite being on the lake, so even in summer, a light jacket is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 30 minutes. Taking the first ferry of the day gives you more time on the island and allows you to explore the lakeshore leisurely in the afternoon
