Walrus Strolls and Handshakes with Clawless Otters. A Zero-Distance Encounter Aquarium
About this spot
With the concept of 'zero-distance encounters,' this aquarium's official name is Ise Meoto Iwa Fureai Aquarium. During 'Walrus Stroll Time,' walruses walk through the facility's pathways where you can touch them up close—children will be thrilled beyond words. Special corners allow you to shake hands with clawless otters through tank openings and interact with spotted seals. The closeness of animal encounters here is among the finest in Japan. The compact size is perfect for small children's feet, with no unnecessary walking. The adjacent commercial facility 'Ise Meoto Yokocho' features seafood and Ise udon restaurants plus souvenir shops, making lunch and snacks all available here. Spend a full afternoon bonding with marine creatures—the perfect finale to this course.
Tips
Located at the entrance side of the Meoto Iwa shopping area in the same facility as Meoto Yokocho. Dedicated parking offers discounts with aquarium admission. Walrus strolls and otter handshakes have set times—confirm the day's encounter schedule upon entry. Hands and clothes may get wet during animal interactions, so bring a towel. Strollers are welcome throughout.
Best time to visit
Approximately 4 hours. Include lunch at Meoto Yokocho and time your visit around afternoon encounter events.
