This long-established mochi shop is said to have opened in 1738 (Genbun 3) during the Edo period and is the original maker of 'Gofukumochi,' Futami Ura's famous confection. Gofukumochi is a soft mochi wrapped in smooth red bean paste, with wavy patterns on the surface representing the waves of Futami Ura. Enjoying it with tea at the shop's tea seating provides a gentle sweetness that soothes tired travelers. Freshly made mochi is wonderfully soft and easy for small children to eat. Boxed gift sets are also available as souvenirs to share memories of your trip. Located on the charming inn-district street, this is a perfect rest stop to experience the traditional culture of pilgrimage souvenirs.
Tips
Just steps from Hinjitsukan along the inn-district street. Tea and mochi are served at the seating area inside. The space is limited, so if busy, you can purchase takeaway and enjoy it on seaside benches—quite pleasant! As this popular item sells out quickly, visiting early is safer if you want to be sure to enjoy it.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Mid-morning offers more available seating for a leisurely experience.
