An ancient Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect said to have been founded in the Nara period, revered by the name "Nyu Daishi" due to its connection to the monk Kobo Daishi. Unlike the male-only Mount Koya, this temple welcomed women and earned the affectionate name "Female Mount Koya," receiving the prayers of people for centuries. Passing through the imposing Nio Gate, the temple grounds open into a serene landscape where buildings are surrounded by greenery, and climbing the stone steps leads to the Daishi Hall with a peaceful view of the Niu countryside. The neighboring Nyu Shrine completes the spiritual experience, allowing visitors to feel the deep history rooted in this land. The verdant grounds have plenty of shade even in summer, making walking comfortable.
