View Odori Park and the City's Grid-Pattern Streets from the 90-Meter Observation Deck
About this spot
Standing 147.2 meters tall at the eastern end of Odori Park (1st block west), this broadcast tower has long served as Sapporo's beloved landmark. From the observation deck at approximately 90 meters above ground, you'll take in Sapporo's distinctive vista—the green ribbon of Odori Park extending straight westward—with views of the city's grid-pattern streets and distant mountains beyond. The observation deck features a gift shop selling merchandise of the unofficial character "Television Father," making it perfect for finding souvenirs for younger family members. The elevator whisks visitors up quickly with minimal strain on grandparents, allowing the entire family to capture Sapporo's panoramic view. After your morning walk, it's especially fun to look back at the direction of the Akarenga Building and Clock Tower from above.
Tips
Located directly at the eastern end of Odori Park with elevator access to the observation deck. Observation deck admission is 1,000 yen for adults; purchase tickets at the 3rd-floor window. Clear days offer the best distant views and photography. Wait times at the elevator can occur during peak hours.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 1 hour. Late afternoon when the air is clearest offers the best visibility and clearest photographs.
