A historic alley in a corner of Susukino where ramen shops line a narrow street, said to have been born in 1951. Known as the birthplace of Sapporo's signature miso ramen culture, it has become a destination for fans from across Japan and overseas. The alley itself—lined with lanterns and noren curtains—is a picturesque sight, and simply strolling while deciding which shop to enter is enjoyable. Most shops are small with counter seating, and watching the chef working a wok right in front of you is full of live energy. The piping hot miso broth infused with the rich flavor of stir-fried vegetables, combined with yellow wavy noodles—a different soul food from the market's seafood—tastes all the better when shared with friends, keeping your eat-your-way journey in great momentum.

Tips

About a 3-minute walk from Susukino Station on the Subway Nanboku Line. Some shops have lines during lunch hours, so try timing your visit outside peak hours or flexibly choosing from less-crowded shops. Since most shops are small with counter seating, be prepared to split up if your group is large. Some shops are cash-only, so having small bills is helpful.

Best time to visit

Plan for about an hour. Around 1 p.m., slightly after the noon rush, is easier to get in.
