Watch Cheese-Making Through Glass and Sample Distinctive Cheeses Like Wine Cheddar

About this spot

A cheese factory surrounded by forest on the outskirts of Furano. Inside, you can view the cheese manufacturing process for free through glass, and the shop displays distinctive cheeses found only here: wine-dyed cheddar with marble patterning from red wine, and black cheese 'Sepia' with squid ink kneaded in, among others. It's fun to sample different cheeses while choosing your favorites. Hands-on cheese, butter, and ice cream-making experiences (reservations required) are also popular, and the grounds feature an Ice Milk Workshop serving gelato made with Furano milk, plus a pizza workshop with a stone oven. A worthwhile detour offering a complete taste of Furano's dairy riches, distinct from the flower fields.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Furano Station with free parking. Viewing is free; hands-on experiences are by reservation, so book early if interested. Cheese requires cooling, so bring a cooler bag for peace of mind when taking purchases home.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Mid-morning time slots allow for relatively leisurely viewing.
