Known as Japan's northernmost aquarium, it is Aomori Prefecture's premier marine learning facility. The 15-meter-long tunnel tank recreates the seafloor of Mutsu Bay, allowing you to walk through while looking up at scallop farming scenes and schools of fish—it feels like taking a stroll through the sea itself. The dolphin performances at the Dolphin Hall pool are the aquarium's signature attraction, featuring dynamic jumps set to Tsugaru musical accompaniment that captivate both children and adults. The compact facility is packed with attractions including creatures from Aomori's rivers and seas, penguins, seals, and more, making it easy to navigate with small children. The touch pool where you can touch starfish and other creatures is popular, and children's curiosity about marine life grows immensely.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Asamushi Onsen Station on the Blue Forest Railway, or easily accessible from the Aomori Expressway with free parking available. Since dolphin performances run several times daily, check the schedule at the entrance before deciding the order of your visit. You can navigate the facility with a stroller, and nursing rooms and diaper-changing facilities are available.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours. The aquarium is relatively quiet early in the morning after opening, and dolphin performance seating is easier to secure.
