An Inari shrine located on a high plateau on the western side of Tsugaru Peninsula overlooking the Japan Sea, revered for bringing good harvests, safe voyages at sea, and prosperous commerce. The main attraction is the thousand torii gates stretching beyond the Ryujin-gū (Dragon Deity Shrine). The crimson gates wind in layers along the shores of a Japanese garden pond, and when viewed from the hilltop, the scene unfolds like a scarlet dragon undulating through the green landscape. Walking through the tunnel of torii gates one by one, the contrast between the crimson and green continues endlessly, revealing a different character with each turn. At the hilltop stands a section lined with stone fox statues donated from across the country, where a unique stillness and mystical atmosphere pervades. This shrine has become a sensation on social media, drawing photography enthusiasts from across Japan, making it one of Tsugaru's most stunning scenic shrines.
Tips
About 30 minutes by car from Goshogawara City center; free parking available. Public transportation is limited, so driving is the primary access. The grounds have many slopes and stone steps, so wear comfortable shoes. Avoid the busy hours before and after noon, and visit early in the morning to photograph the thousand torii gates with fewer people around.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Early morning is recommended when there are fewer visitors and the crimson color is illuminated by morning sunlight.
