A scenic area symbolizing Tanedasshi Coast where green natural grass spreads to the very edge of the water. Designated as a national place of scenic beauty and one of the representative landscapes of Sanriku Fukko National Park. According to local lore, this rare grassland landscape was cultivated through the historical use of the area as a horse pasture. Beyond the green carpet of grass lie rocky shores and the Pacific Ocean. Spreading a leisure sheet and lying down allows you to enjoy the luxury of hearing only the sound of waves and the sea breeze. There is a path nearby said to have inspired the painter Higashiyama Kaii's masterwork "The Road," reflecting how this land has been cherished by many artists. The adjacent Tanedasshi Coast Information Center offers exhibits on nature and wildlife, making it a perfect spot to end the day—have the family sit on the grass and slowly take in the evening sea.
Tips
Free parking is available right in front of the grassland area, and it is approximately a 3-minute walk from JR Hachinohe Line Tanedasshi Coast Station. Restrooms and rest facilities are conveniently located at the adjacent Information Center. The sea breeze can become cool in the evening, so bring an extra layer; returning via the Tanedasshi Coast Station to head back toward Hachinohe is also smooth and efficient.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 2 hours. Afternoon through evening when the setting sun illuminates the grass is most pleasant and perfect as a day's conclusion.
