A glass-walled cultural tourism facility in Hachinohe's central city area on Mikkacho Street, officially called Hachinohe Portal Museum but affectionately known as Hacchi. The open, soaring interior houses displays of the ornate Hachinohe Sansha Taisai festival floats and exhibits showcasing life in the Nanbu region; admission is free and you can take in Hachinohe's culture at a glance. The facility also includes a making studio, café, and shop carrying local artisan goods, with galleries hosting community exhibitions and events daily—it's truly a living room for the town. Resting your legs tired from morning market walks while learning about Hachinohe's festival heritage and port-town culture will make your evening meal and conversations at the yokocho that much more meaningful.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Moto-Hachinohe Station, and very close to Miroku Yokocho. Free admission and plenty of rest areas make it perfect as a walking tour base. There is no dedicated parking, so use nearby coin parking if driving. Visiting the café and shop inside for post-lunch coffee and souvenir hunting is recommended.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 1 hour 15 minutes. The afternoon after lunch is relaxed. It's a perfect time to leisurely browse the exhibitions and shop.
