An information hub dedicated to the "Northernmost Ama Divers" located on the Kosode Kaigan Coast. The Kosode district of Kuji is known as a place where ama diving culture—harvesting sea urchins and abalone through free diving—has been passed down through generations. The district gained nationwide recognition after being featured as the setting for a popular television drama series. Inside, exhibits and panels showcase the history of ama divers, their tools, and free-diving fishing techniques. The top-floor observation area offers sweeping views of Kosode Fishing Harbor, rocky shores, and the vast Pacific Ocean. During the summer tourist season, demonstrations of traditional free-diving by ama divers are sometimes held—watching them dive in their traditional indigo-dyed work clothes is a must-see. This is a special place where people of all ages, from grandparents to grandchildren, can experience the lives of those who have worked alongside the sea.

Tips

About 25 minutes by car from Kuji Station. Some sections of the road along the Kosode Kaigan Coast are narrow, so drive carefully. Traffic restrictions may be in effect during the tourist season, so check in advance. Admission is free, and restrooms are available inside. Diving demonstrations have limited scheduled times, so check the Kuji tourism information if you wish to see one.

Best time to visit

Plan for about 1 hour. The early morning offers the clearest air and the most beautiful ocean blue, making it perfect for starting your day.
